Health Protection Agency HPA says more than 282,600 people in the Maldives are now fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic.

HPA said in its latest vaccination update that until the 6th of this month, 329,403 people had received the first dose of the COVID vaccine.

HPA said that out of these 282,653 people have now received the second dose of the vaccine and are fully vaccinated against the fast-spreading illness.

The agency had been overseeing the administration of several vaccines in the country and this includes Covishield, Sinopharm, Pfizer, and the AstraZeneca vaccine.

It had set up 6 vaccination centers and 3 mobile units in the Greater Male' Area and 176 vaccination centers in the Atolls.

Meanwhile, yesterday the Agency had said that it would take action against those who had not gone to get their vaccination shots despite being eligible for the inoculation.

Eating establishments can restrict service to those who refuse to get vaccinated

HPA had said starting 1st of September, there would be restrictions for those who refuse to vaccinate against the pandemic and these restrictions can be implemented in eating establishments, domestic airports, public transport vehicles, and by public service providers.

HPA had also said those who are not vaccinated can also be restricted by offices.

Last week, the Education Ministry had said that starting next month, only double-dosed parents would be allowed to enter school grounds once the new academic year begins.

The new academic year is set to begin next Tuesday.
