Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 131 new cases of COVID-19 in the country which takes the total number of cases reported in the island nation beyond 78,000.
HPA said last night that 21 of the new cases had come from the Greater Male' Area where the infection is now believed to be controlled.
The Agency went onto say that 92 others had tested positive for COVID-19 in the inhabited islands and 18 cases of the pandemic were reported from operational resorts yesterday.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases to a staggering 78,130 since March 2020.
HPA said that there are 2,543 active cases of the pandemic here in the Maldives right now and that 24 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency had said that 75,353 people have recovered from the illness in the country.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has claimed the lives of 222 people in the Maldives and most of these individuals were elderly locals with underlying health issues.
HPA had also said that total cases include 12 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
