Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 115 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Sunday.
HPA said out of the 115 new cases, 23 were reported from the Greater Male Area, and that 78 were confirmed from inhabited islands. HPA also confirmed 12 new cases from operational resorts and 2 new cases from safaris.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to a staggering 77,547.
HPA had said that right now there are 2,556 active cases of COVID-19 in the country while 74,758 people have recovered from the illness.
It also said that 20 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
A total of 221 people have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April 2020 and most of the deaths have come this year with 88 people succumbing to the pandemic in May of this year.
HPA had also said that the total cases include 12 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
