A man has been given a fine of MVR 18,000 for stealing a bottle of perfume from a Red Wave outlet back in 2017.
The man was caught trying to steal a bottle of perfume from the Redwave outlet on Majeedhee Magu of Male' City four years ago by hiding the bottle in his jeans.
He was charged with illegally exerting power on another's property. T
During the trial, the defendant had pleaded guilty to stealing the perfume bottle and had requested the court for leniency during sentencing.
The man was already on a jail sentence for a separate crime and his sentence was set to end in 16 days.
The defendant had asked the court to change his jail sentence to a fine and had said that he would be able to pay the fine within 6 months.
The court took his request into account and sentenced that he pay a fine of MVR 18,000 within six months for attempting to steal a bottle of perfume.
