Health Protection Agency HPA has reported an additional 80 cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Saturday as the total number of cases goes beyond 75,800.

HPA said via Twitter that 56 of the 80 new cases reported yesterday were confirmed from inhabited islands and that 16 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area.

It added that 8 new cases were reported from operational resorts.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases to 75,816 in the Maldives with 73,072 recoveries.

HPA said that there are currently 2,516 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 23 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The global pandemic has killed 216 people in the Maldives and most of those who died from the illness were elderly locals.

Health Protection Agency had said that total cases include 12 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
