Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabroolk Azeez says children under the age of 18, who are ineligible for the COVID vaccine, can now travel without having to quarantine.

He said via Twitter that children can now travel to islands that are not under monitoring and must produce a negative PCR test before traveling.

His confirmation came amid heavy criticism at the authorities for excluding children from travel restriction eases after announcing that adults who are fully vaccinated can travel to islands that are not under monitoring 14 days after getting the second dose of the vaccine.

Initially, authorities had said that children under the age of 18 and those who are unvaccinated must complete the mandatory quarantine after traveling.

Yesterday, authorities had granted a host of new restriction eases including lifting the nearly 2-month-old curfew in the Greater Male' Area.

Authorities had also said that dine-in services in eateries would be allowed till 11:30 pm while gatherings of less than 30 people would also be now allowed.

Daycare centers, cinemas, tuitions, and Quran classes would also be allowed to open as per set guidelines by the Health Protection Agency HPA.
