Under this project, MTCC had been tasked to build 2,861-meter coastal protection on both sides of the runway while building a causeway that would allow for an unhindered flow of seawater.

MTCC must finish the MVR 90.5 million dollar project within 30 days.

In the last monsoonal rain, the newly opened Hoarafushi Airport had sustained major damages due to heavy rain and flooding.

The airport was forced to close its doors for passengers while the repairs were being made and had only resumed services last month.
