Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 187 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the daily number continues to drop after a devastating wave of the pandemic last month.
The Agency said that out of the 187 new cases, 84 were reported from the Greater Male' Area and that 91 were confirmed from the inhabited islands. HPA also confirmed 7 cases from operational resorts and 5 from safaris.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 71,896 with 66,379 recoveries.
HPA had said that the number of active cases has now fallen to 5,300 as it was above 24,000 at the start of the month.
It had also said that the number of hospitalized COVID patients has now dropped to 46.
The pandemic has killed 206 people in the Maldives and this includes the 45 COVID-19 deaths reported this month. Last month the HPA had confirmed 88 COVID-19 deaths as the country fought the worst pandemic wave since it had the country's shores last year.
HPA had announced several measures to restrict movement in a bid to deter the spread of the virus, especially in the Greater Male' Area.
This includes a 16-hour curfew which has now been shortened to 12-hours amid the drop in cases.
