Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 142 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Friday, as the daily cases reported continue to fall in the island nation.
The Agency reported that yesterday 51 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area while another 88 were reported from the inhabited islands. HPA also confirmed 2 from operational resorts and 1 new case from a safari.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 71, 498.
HPA said that yesterday 964 people had recovered from the illness in the Maldives and that a total of 65,178 people have now recovered from the pandemic in the country.
The Agency noted that there are 6,106 active cases in the country which is a significant drop from the number of active cases reported at the beginning of the month. HPA had confirmed more than 24,000 active cases in the country at the start of June while the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients was above 200.
Yesterday, HPA said that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has now dropped to 53.
The pandemic has killed 204 individuals since April 2020 and 43 deaths have come so far this month.
