Health Protection Agency HPA has reported an additional 241 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday taking the total cases beyond 71,000.
HPA had said that out of the 241 cases reported 90 were from the Greater Male' Area while 143 new cases were confirmed from the islands. HPA also reported 6 cases from operational resorts and 2 from islands under development.
This has edged the total number of cases reported in the country to 71,138.
HPA had confirmed on Wednesday that a further 647 people had recovered from the illness in the country and that this has taken the total number of recoveries to 63,180.
The Agency noted that the number of active cases currently in the country had now fallen to 7,747. At the beginning of this month, the number of active cases in the country was alarmingly high at 24,035.
HPA reported that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has also dropped down to 67 with it being at 208 at the start of the month.
Despite the steady decline in cases, Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC had said that the current restrictive measures would remain in place for the next two weeks. This includes the curfew currently implemented in the Greater Male' Area although it had now been shortened to 12 hours from 04:00 pm to 04:00 am.
