Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now surpassed 70,000.
HPA said last night that on Saturday 246 new cases reported in the country.
HPA said that this includes 88 cases from the Greater Male' Area, 137 new cases from inhabited islands, and 13 cases from operational resorts. HPA had also reported 8 cases from islands under development.
With this, the steady decrease in daily cases continued in the country especially the Greater Male' Area where the infection was believed to be rampant just weeks ago
HPA said that the new cases had taken the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 70,077.
The Agency had said that yesterday 2,273 with COVID-19 had recovered and that this had taken the total number of COVID recoveries to a promising 58,832.
HPA reported that there are 11,041 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now compared to 24,035 active cases at the beginning of this month.
The Agency had also mentioned that there are now just 97 COVID patients at the hospitals right now and that at the beginning of this month this number had been well over 200.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 197 people in the Maldives since April 2020.
