The wife of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, former First Lady Madam Naseera Ibrahim has tested positive for COVID-19.

Sources have said that she had tested positive for the illness yesterday. Reports have also confirmed that she is in good condition and that she remains at her residence.

Madam Nasreena was tested for COVID-19 after she had shown symptoms of the illness.

It is believed that the former First Lady along with her husband had completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine

Ex-President Maumoon had tested positive for the illness in August of last year. He was admitted to Dharumavantha Hospital for further treatment after contracting the illness.

A total of 69,831 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since the pandemic hit its shores last year. Health Protection Agency HPA had said that 55,559 people have since recovered from the illness and that 13,071 remain as active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives.

HPA had confirmed that a total of 192 people have succumbed to the illness in the Maldives since April 2020.
