Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 295 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Friday as the country records a significant drop in new cases over the last few days.
The Agency confirmed that these new cases include 138 from the Greater Male' Area, 146 from inhabited islands, and 11 from operational resorts.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country close to 70,000 at 69,831.
HPA had also said that 56,559 people have recovered from the COVID-19 illness in the Maldives since March 2020. Currently, there are 13,071 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has now dropped to 111.

Last month is the month with the highest COVID fatalities in the country since the pandemic hit its shores last year with a total of 88 deaths.
The steady decline in cases comes amidst a host of restrictive measures in the country especially the Greater Male' Area that looks to control the movement of people to curb the spread.
This includes a 16-hour curfew in the area from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am every day and not allowing residents to go outside without a police-issued permit even during non-curfew hours.
Authorities had said that the current measures would be implemented till the 15th of this month and that they would take appropriate action after looking at the positivity rate in the country.
