Health Protection Agency HPA says as young people are more mobile, they have the highest risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus and has urged the age group to get their jabs.

The Agency said so far this year in the Greater Male' Area, 39 percent of the people aged 20-29 years haven't had any vaccine doses.

More alarmingly, HPA also said that 48 percent of people stopped without masks in public spaces are aged 20-29.

Wearing facemask in public spaces is now mandatory across the country with authorities fining those who disobey the rule.

HPA urged individuals of the age group to protect themselves and their loved ones by vaccinating and practicing life-saving behaviors.

Meanwhile, the latest statistics by the Agency showed that 163,789 people in the country have now been fully immunized against the devastating illness.

HPA had also revealed that 308,905 people have received the first dose of the vaccine in the country.

The Agency kicked off its massive vaccination drive in February of this year and is now operating 11 vaccination centers in the Greater Male Area along with 4 mobile units. HPA had also set up 240 vaccination centers in the atolls to help with the inoculation drive.
