Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 1004 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the Maldives continues to fight the current wave of the global pandemic.
HPA said via Twitter that out of the 1004 new cases, 835 were reported from the Greater Male' Area with another 153 from inhabited islands and 12 from operational resorts. HPA also confirmed 4 new cases from safaris.
This takes the total number of cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 58,345 with 34,159 recoveries.
HPA had confirmed that there are 24,033 active cases in the country right now and that 289 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized for further treatment.
The pandemic has killed 144 individuals in the Maldives and 71 of those deaths have come this month.
Earlier this week, authorities announced more measures would go into effect starting today and that this includes extending the curfew hours in the Greater Male' Area from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am.
Authorities had also said that during non-curfew hours residents would only be allowed to go out with a pass and each household would only be issued two passes.
