Public Health officials in the Maldives have today extended the 12-hour curfew currently in place in the Greater Male' Area to further deter the rampant COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Speaking at the latest press briefing held by the Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC, Presidential spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said that starting this Wednesday, the curfew would be implemented from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am. He said that this curfew would be in place for the next two weeks.
Mabrook also said that individuals who go out during non-curfew hours would require a residential pass and each residence would be issued two passes.
He noted that even with the pass, individuals are advised to go out only for necessary needs.
Mabrook said that the Greater Male' Area had been halved into two zones and that one zone includes Male' and Villimale and that Hulhumale is the other zone.
He said that even during non-curfew hours residents cannot travel between the zones as the measures are taken to control the spread of the disease.
