Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another five COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives today as the pandemic death toll continues to rise.

The Agency tweeted saying that earlier today morning an 81-year-old Maldivian man brought to IGMH/ER was declared dead at 02:02 am.

HPA confirmed the rest of the four deaths from Hulhumale Medical Facility and that all four were local men.

It said that earlier today at 04:25 am a 58-year-old passed away due to the illness and that a 77-year-old Maldivian man also died from the fast-spreading disease.

HPA reported that today's death also included a 93-year-old man and an 85-year-old local too.

Today's deaths take the country's death toll to a staggering 134 with 61 deaths coming this month alone.

Most of the deaths have been locals with few foreigners also dying from the illness in the country.

Health Emergency Operations Center has said yesterday that it would be announcing more restrictive measures against the pandemic later this week as the country's pandemic situation continues to worsen.

Several restrictive measures are already in place including a 12-hour curfew in the Greater Male' Area and several other islands where the pandemic is believed to be rampant.
