Health Protection Agency HPA has reimplemented a vehicle ban in the Greater Male' Area amid the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the country over the last few days.

HPA confirmed in an announcement that a vehicle ban would be implemented in the greater Male' Area of Male', Villimale', Hulhumale'. Gulheefalhu, and Thilafushi from 12:00 pm to 04:00 am starting the 5th of this month. HPA also said that this vehicle ban would be in place for the next 10 days amid a serious spike in COVID-19 cases, especially in the Greater Male' Area.

Similarly, HPA had announced further restrictions in the area and had said that these measures would go into place tomorrow.

HPA said that this includes the closure of the parks, open spaces, sports grounds, running tracks and swimming tracks in Greater Male’ area.

It also said that sports activities and competitions will be stopped in the Greater Male’ Area for the next 10 days.

The stricter measures came as the Maldives recorded more than 1000 cases in the last two days amid an alarming escalation of daily cases across the country.

HPA had reported that out of these cases, 673 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area where experts now believe that the pandemic is vastly rampant.
