Maldives National Defense Force MNDF Coast Guard has caught 5 foreign fishing vessels while fishing illegally in Maldivian waters.
MNDF confirmed via Twitter that coast guard ship Huravee had come across the fishing vessels while on its routine petrol.
MNDF reported that they were caught east of Meemu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll and that they were caught fishing 30 nautical miles inside Maldivian Exclusive Economic Zone EEZ.
MNDF did not release any more information about the caught vessels.
Foreign Vessels illegally wander into Maldivian waters occasionally to take advantage of the fish-rich seas of the country.
Last February, another foreign vessel was caught while treading in the Maldivian seas.
It was spotted by a local fishing vessel and reported to MNDF.
