Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 death in the Maldives today as the pandemic situation takes a turn for the worse.

HPA said today at 08:44 pm a 50-year-old Indian man admitted at DH11 has passed away due to the pandemic. This is the 8th foreigner to succumb to the disease in the Maldives since April 2020.

HPA also confirmed that this is the 73rd person to die from the pandemic in the Maldives. Along with 8 foreigners, 65 locals have also succumbed to the illness here in the Maldives.

Earlier today, the Agency had reported the death of an 85-year-old local woman who had also been admitted at DH11.

The two death came as the COVID-19 situation in the country appears to be worsening in the past few days with the daily cases on the rise yet again.

On Wednesday, HPA reported a record 464 new cases of COVID-19 in the country including more than 200 new cases in the Greater Male Area alone.

This has taken the total number of cases beyond 29,000 in the island nation.
