It also confirmed 21 cases from operational resorts and 8 cases from industrial islands or islands used for other purposes.

This takes the total cases reported in the Maldives close to 27,500 at 27.403.

The Agency noted that 24,116 people have since recovered from the fast-spreading illness.

The global pandemic has killed 71 in the Maldives since April of 2020 and this includes 64 locals and 7 foreigners.

Most of the locals who have succumbed to the illness were elderly individuals with underlying health conditions but some younger patients have also passed away due to the pandemic.

HPA had also reported that the total confirmed cases include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
