Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 253 cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday as the daily numbers continue to rise in the island nation.
HPA said via Twitter that the new cases include 111 COVID cases from the Greater Male' Area, 61 from inhabited islands, 64 from operational resorts, and 17 from industrial islands and islands used for other purposes.
HPA confirmed that this takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the island nation to 26,920.
It also said that currently there are 2,905 active cases of COVID-19 in the country with 83 COVID patients currently hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA added that 23,935 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The global pandemic has killed 71 individuals since April of last year and this includes 64 locals and 7 foreigners.
HPA had also said that confirmed cases include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
