Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 203 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives today as the daily case numbers continue to rise.
HPA said in a tweet that the new cases include 115 from the Greater Male' Area, 70 from inhabited islands, and 18 from operational resorts.
This takes the total number of cases reported in the country to 26,348.
HPA also said that the number of active cases in the country has now edged to 2,678 and that 23,591 people have recovered from the illness.
The Agency added that 60 COVID patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
Meanwhile, HPA had confirmed that celebrated educator late Naila Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu had succumbed to COVID-19 yesterday and that the pandemic death toll has now reached 70.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had conveyed condolences to the family of late Naila who passed away at 72.
The much-loved teacher began her career on December 28, 1971, teaching history and social studies before taking on the headteacher, secondary supervisor, and supervisor roles.
She had also previously served as a supervisor in Ghiyasuddin International School and as the assistant director of the National Library.
