The brazen assault has resulted in a strong reaction from those on Social Media and former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon said that "this cannot be the lived reality of us, women".

She said on Twitter that when a woman cannot walk in front of a mosque in a well-lit road in the holiest of months with many bystanders including the police, without fear of being raped, the country has truly failed.

In a reply to the former Foreign Minister's Tweet, Former Gender Minister Aneesa Ahmed said that this case too will be swept aside blaming the woman for having provoked lustful thoughts in men by the way she was dressed or for being on the road alone.
