Many have taken to social media to vent their frustration and express their outrage after another rape case has caught the attention of the nation.
Yesterday, the Police have confirmed that two men were arrested for the rape of a young woman in Male' on the 16th of this month.
Police said that the suspect arrested in the case include an 18-year-old and a 23-year-old and that both had prior criminal records.
Reports have said the suspect had kidnapped the woman while she was on her way home and had dragged her to a nearby house where they had raped the victim.
The brazen assault has resulted in a strong reaction from those on Social Media and former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon said that "this cannot be the lived reality of us, women".
She said on Twitter that when a woman cannot walk in front of a mosque in a well-lit road in the holiest of months with many bystanders including the police, without fear of being raped, the country has truly failed.
In a reply to the former Foreign Minister's Tweet, Former Gender Minister Aneesa Ahmed said that this case too will be swept aside blaming the woman for having provoked lustful thoughts in men by the way she was dressed or for being on the road alone.
In the latest development of the case, Police had said that the two suspects were remanded in custody for another five days when they were taken to the criminal court for their remand hearing.
