Health Protection Agency HPA has reported another 113 new cases of COVID-19 in the country today as the total number of cases steadily increases.

HPA said in its daily COVID update via Twitter that the new cases include 56 from the Greater Male' Area, 46 new cases from inhabited islands, and 11 new cases from operational resorts.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives to 25,304 in more than one year.

HPA had also confirmed that a total of 22,166 people have since recovered from the illness in the Maldives. It said that there are currently 3,062 active cases of the pandemic here in the Maldives. It also said that 85 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.

The global pandemic has killed 67 individuals in the Maldives and this includes 60 locals and 7 foreigners. Most of the locals who had succumbed to the pandemic were elderly individuals with underlying health conditions but fairly young individuals have also lost the battle against the fast-spreading disease.

HPA had also reported that the total number of confirmed cases include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
