Health Protection Agency HPA says that it would begin administering the first dose of the Pfizer Vaccine next Sunday.

HPA said tonight that it would only be given through appointments and only to those who have pre-registered for the vaccine. It added that the vaccine would only be given in the Greater Male' Area for now.

HPA had said that registration for the vaccine is open to children of the ages of 16 and 17 who are currently battling a long-term illness as well as those above 60 years of age who are seeking treatment for a chronic health condition.

The Agency had also said that immunocompromised individuals between the ages of 18 and 60 are also eligible for the vaccine.

HPA had said that such individuals can register for the vaccine via the google link on its official Twitter account and Viber page.

Last month, the Maldives had received 5,850 doses of the Pfizer vaccine sent by the COVAX Facility to support the vaccination campaign currently underway across the nation.

The UNICEF office in the Maldives said in a tweet that UNICEF is supporting the government in public communication, supply, logistics, and cold chain management of the vaccination.

Currently, the HPA is overseeing the administration of the 1st dose of the Sinopharm vaccine and the 2nd dose of the Covishield vaccine in the Greater Male' Area.
