Health Protection Agency HPA has lifted V. Thinadhoo from monitoring status.

The island was placed under monitoring yesterday after a COVID-19 case was detected from the island.

Speaking to "The Press", Thinadhoo council had said that the positive case was detected after a tourist who had visited the island for a holiday had tested positive for the illness upon giving his departure sample.

The Council further said that an individual from the island had contacted the tourist from Pakistan and the island was placed under monitoring to conduct contact tracing and case investigations.

It also said that the individual who had contact with the tourist had been tested for COVID-19 and the individual's test had come back negative.

The council added that the island was lifted from monitoring based on this result but confirmed that the individual who had contact with the infected tourist would be placed under quarantine for 10 days.

Although, Thinadhoo has been lifted from monitoring, 16 islands across the country still remained under monitoring after COVID-19 cases were discovered on the islands.

Health Protection Agency HPA has also said that there are over 900 active cases of COVID-19 in the islands right as authorities look to control the spread of the pandemic in the Atolls.
