Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 104 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Saturday as authorities look to control the outbreaks in the Atolls.

HPA said in its daily COVID update via Twitter that out of the 3570 COVID samples tested in the last 24 hours, 104 tested positive and that this includes 58 from the Greater Male' area as well as 24 from the Atolls.

This is the first in 5 days the daily COVID numbers reported from the Atolls have dropped below 50 as authorities look to reign in the community spreads in Kaafu Atoll Huraa and the whole of Lhaviyani Atoll, where all the inhabited islands are now under monitoring. HPA had last week taken strict measures in Huraa and Naifaru of Lhaviyani Atoll including imposing curfews and banning house visiting among residents.

HPA also said that 21 cases were confirmed from operational resorts on Saturday.

The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the island nation to 24,651.

HPA had confirmed that 21,512 people have recovered and that active cases have now fallen to 3063. HPA also said that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has now risen to 94.

The global pandemic has killed 67 individuals in the Maldives and this includes 60 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA has also said that confirmed cases include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
