Speaker of the parliament and President of MPD Mohamed Nasheed and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail have exchanged "heated words" amid growing tensions within the ruling coalition government.

The pair exchanged the words in the Watsapp group opened for MDP national congress members.

In a message, the speaker had said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would suffer trying to "cover-up" after Minister Fayyaz.

In reply to this message, Fayyaz had said he had nothing to cover-up and that this is not North Korea where dictatorship tactics would work.

Nasheed had come back to that saying that he is working to root out corruption from MDP and but is "embarrassed" to stand up to Minister Fayyaz.

The Minister in turn had said that this is his country too and that he would continue speaking out for his nation and that no one can stop him from doing so.

Nasheed replied by saying that he was not confused about nationality and that the Minister had brought this up.

With this, Minister Fayyaz had challenged the Speaker to a public debate on the matter which Nasheed had readily accepted. He added that the Public Media PSM would suffice for such a debate but the Minister had upped the game by saying that all media should be invited to such a debate.

Nasheed concluded by saying that he has requested MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef to arrange such a debate.
