Heath Protection Agency HPA has overseen the vaccination of 2,444 people on Thursday as the Maldives received both the Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccine shipments today.

HPA said that 1,392 people were vaccinated in the Greater Male' Area today while 1,052 people were given the vaccine in the Atolls.

This takes the total number of vaccinated individuals to a promising 227,423. This includes 127,277 from the Greater Male' Area and 100,146 in the Atolls.

Meanwhile, the Maldives today received two separate shipments of COVID-19 vaccine. Earlier today, the Chinese government had handed over 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine after the government had chartered to fly in the vaccine shipment from China.

This is the first batch of the 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine the Chinese government had donated and the foreign Ministry had confirmed that the 2nd batch would arrive on the 30th of this month.

On Thursday, the Maldives also received 5,850 doses of the Pfizer vaccines sent by the COVAX Facility to support the vaccination campaign currently underway across the nation.

The UNICEF office in the Maldives said in a tweet that UNICEF is supporting the government in public communication, supply, logistics, and cold chain management of the vaccination.
