Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional 128 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Tuesday.
HPA said in its daily COVID update via Twitter that these new cases include 91 confirmed from the Greater Male' Area, 11 reported from inhabited islands, and 26 confirmed from operational resorts.
Tuesday's new COVID cases take the total reported cases in the island nation to 22,790 with a total of 20,226 recoveries reported in the country.
HPA confirmed that 2,491 individuals remained as active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives and that 102 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The global pandemic has taken the lives of 66 individuals in the Maldives and this includes 59 locals and 7 foreigners.
Four individuals have been killed this month after contracting the fast-spreading illness while 10 individuals succumbed to the pandemic last month.
HPA had also said that confirmed cases include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
The steady rise in COVID-19 cases comes amid stern measures from HPA to quell the year-long pandemic here in the Maldives.
Most of these measures have been taken in the Greater Male' Area where the pandemic remains rampant. These measures include a curfew and a vehicle ban in the Greater Male' Area while public gatherings of more than 5 people have also been banned in the area.
