Members of the opposition coalition have today delivered a 'massive' letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih calling for the full disclosure of the agreements made between the Maldives and India.
The unusual letter measured 8ft in height as it was printed on a piece of plywood. Several members of the coalition joined hands to deliver the large letter to the President's Office.
The letter said that each time MDP comes into power, the nation is at risk of losing its sovereignty and freedom to other countries and global companies and this concern remains across the nation.
It also said that the current government had failed to fulfill its campaign pledges but instead are involved in making shady deals with the Indian government that endangers the national security and sovereignty of the country.
It further read that this in turn has made the people of the country nervous and fearful of the situation.
The letter listed the agreement struck with India on the development of Uthuruthilafalhu, the helicopters donated by the Indian government as well as the Dornier aircraft given for MNDF use by the Indian military.
The opposition's letter said that the Maldivian land is a sacred land on which many had thwarted past oppressors valiantly to preserve its freedom. It said that history would show how few traitorous Maldivians had aided the enemy each time a foreign power had look to enslave the country.
It called on the government to disclose the details of the 'shady' agreements with India if the government felt any love for the country and its people.
