Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has met the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives, Alaina Teplitz today at the Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the Ministry said that both the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador held discussions on the existing bilateral relations, and explored expanding the cooperation between the two countries especially in the field of climate change, security, trade, and investments and as well as at the multilateral fora.

It said that discussions were also held on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recovery efforts.

Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the US Government for their generous assistance since the beginning of the pandemic and assured his commitment to increasing cooperation between the two countries in various areas that are of mutual benefit.

After the meeting Minister Shahid took to Twitter to express his pleasure in having the opportunity to meet and exchange views on areas of mutual interest with the US Ambassador.

The Minister said that during the meeting, the Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of the Indian Ocean and enhancing cooperation in areas such as climate change, security, human rights, and trade.
