The family of former President Abdullah Yameen, who is currently serving a five-year jail sentence for money laundering, has requested the Home Ministry to transfer the ex-President to his home.
Director of Communications at the Ministry Hafsy Abdullah has confirmed to 'The Press' that Yameen's family had requested the Ministry to intervene and transfer the ex-president to his home.
He also said that the Ministry is yet to make a decision on this request but did not share why the ex-President's family wanted to move him to his house.
This comes after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had recently said that the government had yet to receive any medical document that requires the former President's transfer to his house.
President Solih had said this at a rare news conference held earlier this month and had said that if and when such a document is submitted he would sincerely consider the request.
The opposition on numerous occasions had called for the former President's transfer to his home and had said that he was jailed unfairly to achieve a political purpose.
