Former Home Minister Umar Naseer says the leaked Uthuruthilafalhu document is the first draft sent by India and challenged the government to show the signed agreement if the final document had been revised.
Speaking at a forum by Dhivehi National Action (DNA), which is spearheaded by Umar, he said the Indian government had sent the leaked document to the Maldivian government last June.
He also said that the document was sent then to pressure the Maldivian government into signing it as the country's economy was facing daunting times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Umar said that as the leaked document is an initial draft of the signed agreement, how much revision was made to the document can only be revealed by those currently in power and called on the government to publicize the signed agreement.
The ex-Minister had leaked the document on Monday and may now face action as MP from MDP had called for it during the parliamentary sitting which deliberated on an emergency motion about the leaked document and those who leaked such information.
Earlier today, in a press conference held by the Council of Generals of the Maldives National Defense Force, Chief of Defence Force Major General Mohamed Shamal had said that the leaked document was a fake document and was not even a draft of the signed UTF agreement between India and the Maldives.
