Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional 153 new cases of COVID-19 today after a dip in the daily cases reported in the country.
HPA said in its daily tweet that the new cases include 132 from the Greater Male' Area, 13 from inhabited islands, 2 from operational resorts, 3 from safaris, and 3 from islands under development.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives to 21,819 with 19,342 recoveries.
HPA said that 2,406 remained as active cases of the pandemic here in the Maldives. It also said that 126 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The global pandemic has taken 64 lives here in the Maldives including the lives of 57 locals and 7 foreigners.
Last month it had killed 10 people while two have succumbed to the illness so far this month.
HPA and local authorities have been taking extra precautionary measures to deter the pandemic but so far is yet to show any positive outcomes.
Public Health officials have confirmed that the Maldives is currently experiencing the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and that this is by far the worst wave yet.
