Authorities in Haa Alifu Baarah say that it has been two days since a person last tested positive for COVID-19 on the island.
Speaking to 'The Press' President of Baarashu Council Ali Shameem said that although it has been two days since the last case had been reported, a total of 36 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 on the island.
He also said that over 130 contacts had been identified and that authorities had been taking random samples from the island. Shameem added that most of the random samples have turned out negative.
Shameem also said that with more than 130 individuals under quarantine after being identified as contacts of positive patients, several institutions on the island are finding it difficult to manage day-to-day operations. He said that this includes the council as well as the utility company Fenaka.
The island is currently under monitoring and was placed under monitoring after it was discovered that several individuals on the island had met some people under quarantine on the island.
Authorities had rushed to conduct mass testing on the island after 9 people under quarantine had tested positive for COVID-19 and 4 out 6 who had contact with them had tested positive the next day.
