President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has given his full backing to Transport Minister Aishath Nahula amid serious allegations against her.
Speaking to Journalists today, President Solih said that Minister Nahula worked hard to fulfill her responsibilities and that she had his full trust and confidence.
However, the president conceded that certain discrepancies have been reported from the Transport Authority including corruption and fraud.
He said that there are overlapping factors between the work done by the Ministry and the Transport Authority and that the government is now working to abolish the authority.
President Solih said that there are hardworking employees at the Authority and that moving forward, the government would take their best interest under consideration.
He added that he was consulting Minister Nahula on the matter.
This comes after serious allegations against the Minister were reported in the media today with several outlets confirming that authorities are now investigating a suspicious transaction between the Minister and a suspected terrorist.
Sources have confirmed that the Financial Intelligence Unit at the central bank MMA is actively investigating the matter and that other related organizations are also involved in the investigation.
