Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 125 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday.
HPA said in its daily COVID update via Twitter that 103 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area alone and that 9 new cases were reported from inhabited islands.
HPA also confirmed 13 additional cases from operational resorts.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to a staggering 20,919.
The Agency had also said that out of those 18,253 have recovered from the illness in the country while 2,595 remained as active cases.
HPA said that 179 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The global pandemic has killed 64 people in the Maldives since April 2020 and this includes 57 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA had reported 2 COVID-19 deaths so far this month while the pandemic claimed the lives of 10 people last month.
HPA had said before that the confirmed cases include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
Public Health officials have said last month that currently, the Maldives is dealing with the third and worst wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.\
This has prompted authorities to take countermeasures against the fast-spreading pandemic including extending the curfew currently in place in the Greater Male' Area where the infection is rampant.
