Health Protection Agency HPA on Saturday reported 98 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
This is the first time in days the daily COVID-19 cases have fallen below 100.
HPA said that the 98 new cases include 78 from the Greater Male' Area, 4 from inhabited islands, and 14 from operational resorts.
The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now reached 20,663 since March of last year. HPA said that 17,979 people have recovered from the illness and that there are 2,613 active cases of the pandemic currently in the country.
HPA added that 161 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 64 people in the Maldives including 57 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA had confirmed that two had died so far this month while 10 individuals succumbed to the illness last month.
Authorities have been taking extra restrictive measures to deter the rampant illness as the Maldives ride out the third wave of the fast-spreading pandemic.
This includes extending the curfew and ban on vehicles currently in place in the Greater Male' Area for another week while also further strengthening the other measures taken to quell the pandemic.
HPA had said last week that restaurants and cafes in the area must close for dine-in at 08:00 pm while takeaway and delivery orders can be made till 10:30 pm.
HPA had also said that parks and other public places must remain closed while it had prohibited the gathering of more than five people.
