Health Protection Agency HPA has extended the curfew currently imposed in the Greater Male' Area for a further 7 days as the COVID-19 infection rate in the area looks nowhere near falling.

In an announcement issued today, HPA said that for the next 7 days, members of the public cannot go outside between 11:00 pm to 04:30 pm every day.

It also said that cinemas and film theaters must continue to stop operations for the next week while it also banned the use of running tracks for the next seven days.

HPA noted that parks and other public places would be closed for the next week while universities and colleges must not hold physical classes for their students for another week.

HPA also disallowed group sports and exercise activities for the next 7 days.

In its announcement, HPA had also listed a number of activities that would be banned until further notice from HPA. This includes allowing only individuals to exercise in gyms as well as closing down pre-schools and daycares. HPA had also mandated that those traveling to the Atolls from the Greater Male' Area on essential trips must have a negative PCR test taken 72-hour prior to traveling.

HPA also said that the vehicular ban currently in the Greater Male' Area would remain in place until further notice.

The Agency had confirmed 167 new cases in the country today including 135 just from the Greater Male' Area.
