A 67-year-old man who died today had tested positive for COVID-19.

His family had confirmed this to 'The Press' today and had said that the man named Abdul Latheef Hassan had been rushed to the hospital in the early hours of the day.

His family also said that he was rushed to the hospital after he remained unresponsive and had died before he had reached the hospital.

The family of the deceased also said the man was tested for COVID-19 upon his arrival at the hospital and that he had tested positive for the illness.

His family also said because of the positive result his burial and last rites would be conducted as per Health Protection Agency guidelines for such cases and that his body had now been moved to Hulhumale' cemetery where all who succumb to the pandemic are buried.

Meanwhile, HPA had confirmed his death as a COVID-19 death a few minutes back saying that a 67-year-old brought to IGHM/ER in an unresponsive state was declared dead at 06:00 am.

A total of 63 people have died from the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives since April of last year. Out of these 63 people, 10 had died last month.

The 63 who had succumbed to the pandemic include 56 locals and 7 foreigners.

More than 20.000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March of last year and authorities have warned that the Maldives is currently fighting its COVID-19 wave.
