Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed has confirmed that the Bangladeshi man who escaped the Hulhumale Detention Center earlier this month has now been caught and returned to the center.
The Commissioner confirmed in a tweet that the 32-year-old Bangladeshi man named Asanor had been caught last night and brought back into the custody of the Maldives Correctional Services with the assistance of the police.
Ahmed said that the escaped detainee had been caught with a tip from a member of the public about the Bangladeshis whereabouts.
Maldives Correctional Services had reported that he had escaped from the detention center in Hulhumale on the 10th of this month.
Asanor had been placed at the detention Center after he had violated Immigration laws and was awaiting deportation when he escaped from the Center.
