Veteran movie star Koyya Hassan Manik has succumbed to COVID-19 earlier today.

His family and friends have confirmed the tragic news on social media.

Sources have confirmed to "The Press" had said that while the film star had died from COVID-19, another individual from his family had also tested positive for COVID-19.

Sources have also reported that Koyya Hassan Manik had been sick for a few days before dying of the illness.

Health Protection Agency HPA had tweeted later on saying that today at 10:28 am, a 67-year-old local man admitted in DH11 had passed away.

This comes after the agency confirmed another COVID-19 death in the country earlier today. HPA had said that last night at 01:04 am, a 63-year-old local woman admitted also in DH11 had passed away.

This takes the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives to 60 since April of last year. This includes 43 locals and 7 foreigners.

HPA had said last night that total COVID-19 cases reported in the country have now hit 18,467 after 127 new cases were reported on Friday. There are currently 2446 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives with 159 COVID-19 hospitalized for further treatment.
