The Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances says it has held passports of 11 individuals in relation to the cases currently under its investigation.

Speaking at a rare media briefing today, Commission member Misbah Abbas said that a total of 11 individuals have been banned from traveling outside of the country in relation to the cases under investigation by the commission.

He also said that the commission cannot divulge information regarding how many of these individuals were prevented from traveling in relation to the case of the missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan. He added that the commission would provide this information at a later date.

Misbah did not give further details about the passports being held nor connected them with the cases currently under investigation.

The Commission had been under much scrutiny after failing to provide enough headway in any of the investigations under its wing. Since its establishment, the commission is yet to provide any concrete findings nor arrest any individuals based on any of its findings.

Today's press conference, the first in nearly a year, had left the media and the whole nation doubting the commission's effectiveness after failing to give proper answers to the questions posed by the journalists who joined the virtual press briefing.

This commission came into force after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the Bill on Presidential Commissions on 24th June 2019.
