Vice President Faisal Naseem has this evening gotten vaccinated against Covid-19 with the Covishield vaccine at Senahiya Hospital.
After receiving the first dose of the vaccine today, the Vice President appealed to the public to come forth in the national spirit and urged everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had kicked off the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” campaign to inoculate the entire population against Covid-19 on the 1st of February 2021.
The “Covishield” brand vaccine administered in the Maldives was developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) with the same formula as the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
Last month, the Government of India donated a shipment of 100,000 doses of the vaccine to the Maldives.
Vaccination arrangements have been made all across the Maldives with 6 vaccination centers in Greater Male' and 14 vaccination centers in the Atolls. The total number of persons vaccinated with Covishield in the Maldives has reached more than 9,700 people at present.
