Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that a local woman had died from COVID-19 in the Maldives today.
HPA said in a tweet that today at 11:07 am, a 60-year-old local woman admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th Floor DH 11 has passed away.
HPA confirmed that this is the 55th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives and the 3rd person to succumb to the illness in the Maldives this month alone.
The 55 people who had died from COVID-19 in the Maldives include 48 locals and 7 foreigners.
HPA had also said that the total number of COVID cases include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
A total of 16,656 people have now contracted the COVID-19 illness in the Maldives but 14,556 people have since recovered from the pandemic.
Although, current active cases top 2000 as the country continues to ride the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives.
Authorities have tightened the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic in the country including imposing a curfew and a vehicular ban in the capital city of Male' for the next two weeks.
Authorities have also closed done pre-schools and daycares in the Male' Area until further notice while they have made it mandatory to wear facemasks in the public when outside in all inhabited islands of the Maldives
