Health Protection Agency HPA says COVID vaccination has started for individuals of the ages of 65 years and above living in the greater Male’ area.

In a tweet, HPA said that the vaccination for the elderly would be given at two centers in the Greater Male' Region and this includes the vaccination center set-up in the Social Center in Male' and the vaccination center in Hulhumale Hospital.

HPA also said that these centers would be providing the vaccinations between 09:00 am to 05:00 pm.

The Agency had instructed that those who wish to get the vaccine must bring an official document of identification when coming for the inoculation. It also said anyone having COVID-like symptoms or under quarantine would not be vaccinated for the illness.

HPA recommended that those who go to get vaccinated must wear loose clothes and must take a good meal before arriving at the center. It also instructed individuals to take their own drinking water and to take only one other individual as a helper. HPA added that individuals who are taking medicine must bring the details of their medication when coming to get the COVID vaccination.

Authorities in the Maldives began the COVID-19 vaccination program earlier this week and HPA had said that a total of 1578 have now been vaccinated in the country.

HPA said that this includes 1309 individuals who were vaccinated in the Greater Male' region and 269 individuals vaccinated at the 3 vaccination centers in the Atolls.

Currently, the authorities are administering the Covisheild vaccine the Maldives had received from India last month and have said that they were working to secure more vaccine shipments in the coming weeks.
