Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 death in the Maldives today.
In a tweet, HPA said that today at 03:42 pm, a 70-year-old Maldivian man admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor, DH11 had passed away.
HPA confirmed that this is the 53rd person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April of 2020. This year alone 5 people have succumbed to the deadly illness in the Maldives.
The 53 people who had died include 46 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA had also said the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives include 7 individuals tested for the illness after their deaths and that these deaths were not caused by the illness.
The Maldives reported 99 new COVID-19 cases yesterday as pandemic cases fell below 100 for the first time in days.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to a staggering 16,155. While 14,263 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives, there are currently 1833 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.
HPA also revealed that 186 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized for further treatment at the moment. The devastating pandemic has killed 52 individuals here in the Maldives including 45 locals and 7 foreigners.
The drop in COVID-19 cases come as authorities announced new restrictive measures to further deter the spread of the pandemic. This includes imposing a vehicular ban in the Greater Male' Area from tonight onwards and also extend curfew hours previously imposed in the Capital City.
