President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared that the National Flag be flown at half-mast in mourning for three days following the passing away of State Dignitary, Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin, (late) Ibrahim Rasheed.

The President's Office said that from the 1st of February till the 3rd of February the national flag would be flown at half-mast.

State Dignitary late Ibrahim Rasheed passed away at his residence this afternoon, at the age of 92 years. He is a descendant of the Huravee Dynasty, which ruled the nation in the past.

State Dignitary, late Ibrahim Rasheed began his employment in the Government on 24 November 1942 as a Secretary at the Bodu Store and continued his services to the Government for more than 65 years in different positions and capacities.

Notably, late Ibrahim Rasheed served as Secretary to Former President Sumuvvul Ameer Mohamed Ameen during his reign as the President of the First Republic and climbed several ranks during his service to the nation.

He was also a key figure working alongside then Prime Minister, Sumuvvul Ameer Ibrahim Nasir, in securing the agreement allowing the Maldives complete political independence from the British empire.
